Trump’s Speech: Good Energy, Bad Trade, and Ugly Theatrics

Last night in Milwaukee, Donald Trump gave his first speech since facing an assassination attempt and accepted the Republican nomination for the presidency. The bizarre, if entertaining, lead-up to Trump’s entrance featured quite the cast of characters, including Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, and Dana White. There’s a lot to respond to from his 93-minute address, and you may not agree with me on every issue, but in my view, sound economics has never been a strength of politicians in either major party. Whenever I wade into more overtly political waters, I try to call balls and strikes as fairly as I can. We may not know who the candidates will be by next week, but this is my honest reaction as things currently stand.
